About the Program:
The Learn to Skate program is open to all children from
age 5 to 6. The aim of the program is to teach kids the fundamentals of
hockey in a fun and informative environment. The program consists of 16
sessions run over an 8 week period where each child enrolled in the program will
receive an hour on the ice each Saturday and Sunday for the duration of the
hockey school. After the 8 weeks of hockey school the children are divided
up into teams and the teams are balanced according to the various skill levels
of the children to ensure there is equal opportunity for all players. For the
remainder of the months (December to the end of March) the children will play
out a regular hockey season in teams and play under real rules with referees and
official scorekeepers. The program is mandatory for all children under the
age of 6 to attend. While on the ice the kids are divided into groups that
focus on their current skill level, whether it be just stepping on the ice for
the first time, learning how to get up properly after falling on the ice or even
learning how to stick handle. As the weeks progress and your child
develops a specific skill, he/she will be taught new skills so that he/she is
always learning new things.
